Chess has just been updated with online play through Steam!

You can now start an online game, invite a Steam friend, or join a friend’s game and play a relaxed chess match together.

This is our first online beta, focused on simple friend-based play with no time limit. It is designed for casual, friendly matches while we continue improving the online experience.

What’s new in this update

Online play through Steam
Start a quick online game, invite a Steam friend, or join a friend’s match.

777 new chess puzzles
A new set of puzzles has been added for players who want to practice tactics and sharpen their chess skills.

New Steam achievements
Unlock new achievements, including achievements for online play.

Steam Rich Presence
Your Steam status can now show more about what you are doing in Chess.

Seasonal football theme
Celebrate the 2026 world tournament season with a new football-themed board background and avatar.

Whether you want to play against the AI, solve puzzles, play locally, or challenge a friend online, this is a great time to jump back into Chess.
